Broken Leg Ranch is one of the most unique properties on the market.  The setting alone is wonderful, 40 acres of level grassy meadow ringed with evergreens and tamaracks and spotted with groves of young aspens.  The unobstructed views of the rugged Swan Mountains to the east provide for beautiful sunrises and great alpine glow vistas in the evenings.  Located ten minutes from Bigfork Village near the Swan River in the area of Swan, Loon and Horseshoe Lakes, the property is situated perfectly for a variety of recreation, including riding, hiking, fishing, swimming, boating and biking.  A fishing access on the Swan River is less than a mile away.  Loon Lake with its exceptional warm water for swimming is just a short bike ride away.  Adjoining State Forest land expands the riding opportunities from the ranch itself.  Winter recreation includes cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling on nearby Crane Mountain.

The original log home dated to the 1930's.  This has now been dramatically updated and comprises the kitchen and sitting room of the main ranch house, completely remodeled in 2004.  Large windows bring in the meadow, mountains and sunlight, but the warmth and comfort of the small log house remains.  The rest of the home integrates the history and “feel” of Montana beautifully.  The very best of modern equipment and conveniences have been installed in rooms lovingly finished in warm Western woods and colors.

Several of the original log outbuildings remain.  New buildings have been built to look old and weathered.  New metal roofs have already gained a rust patina.  The new structures include a large guest house with full kitchen, bath, laundry facilities and large stone fireplace.  The construction is barn wood of many faded colors.  With its large wraparound porch it provides lots of living area and great outside relaxation spaces.

At the back of the meadow along the edge of the forest are three fully furnished, one bedroom cabins with kitchens, modern bath facilities and fireplaces.  Again, these cabins are built to look as though they have been around for years.  There are also three sleeping cabins, similar to those found at rustic hunting camp resorts.  Most recently, a large gym facility has been constructed in a barn-style building.  There is also a detached three car garage.  All construction is superlative.  The property has the feel of an early 20th century homestead but with all the modern conveniences.  This is an ideal property for a family or corporate retreat, camp or development.
